What a day! Sarah Grasso, a guidance counselor at Leland Gray and incredible Hip-Hop dancer, came to lead Day 1 of our Movement Workshop! Our cast learned all the necessary moves for us to choreograph “Thneedville!” It’s going to be SO cool, and also Sarah is just SO cool!
We also began BLOCKING!
What you wear on stage: Costumes
What you say on stage: Lines
What you use on stage: Props
Where you go on stage: BLOCKING!
Blocking is a sometimes long, and sometimes tedious process-but it’s the first step before we can really dig into our characters. So far, our actors have been blocking rockstars, so we anticipate making it through all the scenes within the first few days of next week.
Our closing question of the day was, “How does art affect our every day lives?”
If only I could have jotted down all the incredible, and often breath-taking answers… here are a few:
“Art is life, expressions, jobs…you can’t escape it.”
“Art keeps us involved, occupied, entertained.”
“People do things differently, art influences how we do things.”
“Art gives me a place to belong.”
“Art brings people together.”
“Art helps me become a better person.”
“We do art without noticing.”
“Art is the universal language of people who don’t speak Latin.”
“Art helps me find humor in life.”
“Art has helped me realize what I want to be.”
“Art helps me be myself and not be afraid.”
Can you imagine a more insightful, thoughtful, and wonderful group of people to be with for two weeks? I sure can’t.
Tomorrow we have Movement Workshop Day 2, more blocking, more games, more character work, leaning “Let It Grow,” and OF COURSE…
TOMORROW NIGHT IS THE CONTRA DANCE!!!!
Please plan to be there with your family as it is bound to be a blast!!!
Ask your campers to teach you how to ask someone to be their partner, swing, do si do, promenade, and end a dance with their partner. (All things you’ll want to know tomorrow evening! 6:30-8:30, bring water!)
Here’s a little video treat… BE SURE TO CHECK OUT THE CHOREOGRAPHY!
