Waaaah!!! Another great day! I can’t believe the first week is coming to a close!
Today we blocked, we danced, we met Marcel Freda, we sang, we built props, found costumes, ate cookies baked by Julia and her mom Jessica (THANK YOU SO DELICIOUS!) and SO. MUCH MORE.
Marcel comes to us from Morrisville (a 2.5 hour drive!) where he is the theatre director at People’s Academy and is the director of a preschool and after school program. I met him through working at the Governor’s Institute on the Arts.
Marcel asked us to think about embodying our characters fully. We moved around the room at our Actor’s Neutral (the walk and posture that feels most natural for us) and he would call out different traits, or states of being that we would have to add to our walk.
We then were asked to strike various poses, and after landing on one, let that pose dictate a character that we had to then become.
In each activity we did with Marcel he asked us QUESTIONS to help us learn more about our characters. You can help your camper by asking them questions about their characters!
And our day would not have been complete without Marcel introducing us to VEGGIE WARS!
(This one I refuse to explain because you will have WAY more fun hearing it from your camper!)
THE TIME HAS COME TO BE MEMORIZING LINES!
Here are strategies our campers came up with to memorize:
-Say lines in front of a mirror
-Right before going to sleep
-Making sure to learn CUES (the line that comes before yours)
-Having another person read the cue line before yours
-Doing some sort of movement while saying lines
-Doing actual BLOCKING while saying lines
-Writing or Typing lines
-Repeating lines over and over
Please, please, please, help your camper learn his/her lines, we are asking them to memorize an unreasonable amount in such a small time, but they are SO capable!
In other news: Emily taught a tongue twister that goes simply, “Peggy Babcock.” You try.
AND! Today we were visiting by SPAE alum and former CIT Nina Singleton-Spencer and L+G Players Alum Kayla Williams! Great to have you both! You are rockstars!
